Freelance Subtitling Application and Portfolio Guide
Enuncia Global programme guidance · Updated 13 October 2026
Subtitling combines language decisions with time and space constraints. A good application explains which parts of that workflow you can perform and gives a reviewer enough context to assess your contribution.
Separate translation from technical work
State whether your experience includes subtitle translation, transcription, spotting/timing, revision, accessibility captions or file preparation. These are related skills, but one does not automatically demonstrate the others.
Give source-to-target language directions and the kinds of material you have worked on. Mention tools and delivery formats only when you have used them and can explain your workflow.
Explain a sample against its brief
Choose a short rights-cleared clip or self-created exercise. Describe the audience, language direction, your role and the requirements you were following. If you supply screenshots in a PDF, explain that they are excerpts rather than an independently playable timed file.
Show how you resolved a real reading or timing problem. A clear note about a shortened phrase, a speaker change or a terminology decision can show your reasoning. Do not invent a universal character or reading-speed limit: requirements depend on the platform and project.
- Source and target languages.
- Your role: translation, timing, revision or another defined task.
- Relevant style guide or brief.
- Delivery format and validation steps.
- Permission to share the clip or excerpts.
Review readability and consistency
Check whether the text can be read comfortably within its allocated time, whether line breaks preserve meaning and whether terminology stays consistent. Review against the audio and image rather than the text alone.
Distinguish ordinary subtitle translation from accessibility captioning requirements such as non-speech audio descriptions. Ask for the applicable specification before promising either service.
Registration is the start of a review
Choose the subtitle specialist role in the professional application. Explain your experience and provide a suitable sample within the form's accepted formats. Enuncia may request additional information or a qualification sample.
Joining does not imply a current vacancy or guaranteed assignments. Scope, rates, deadlines, revision limits and delivery requirements are agreed separately. Clients looking for subtitling services can use the main Enuncia Global website.
